About Us

The Southwest Asian/North African (S.W.A.N.A.) Health ​Alliance at UCLA is committed to cultivating a diverse and ​inclusive community of aspiring health professionals with ​a focus on the S.W.A.N.A. region. The alliance strives to ​promote academic excellence, provide comprehensive pre-​health guidance, and encourage a shared dedication to ​service. Through mentorship, collaboration, and a ​commitment to improving health outcomes, members are ​empowered to make a meaningful impact in both local and ​global health initiatives related to the S.W.A.N.A. ​community.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to bring together students who are ​interested in health studies and in supporting the ​underrepresented Southwest Asian/North African ​(S.W.A.N.A.) communities, both on and off-campus. By ​spearheading initiatives that highlight important issues ​in this region, we aim to educate and engage the campus ​community, creating well-informed advocates for the ​health and well-being of S.W.A.N.A. populations. We are ​dedicated to fostering a supportive network and building ​a sense of community among those with a shared passion ​for the S.W.A.N.A. region.

OUR ONLINE JOURNALS

At the SWANA UCLA Health Alliance Club, we are excited to offer two distinct online journals to foster dialogue and ​raise awareness about healthcare disparities across the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region.

1. Interactive Journal: This journal provides an open platform where users can post healthcare disparities for specific ​regions. It’s designed to engage students, researchers, and professionals by allowing them to contribute their own ​observations and insights into the health challenges within the SWANA region. The interactive format encourages ​feedback, discussions, and community collaboration, advancing both research and shared learning.

2. SWANA UCLA Journal: This journal will be managed by the club, where we will regularly post detailed articles, ​infographics, and slideshows that delve into healthcare disparities for regions we are currently covering or have ​covered. The content will be organized by country and region, providing a thorough educational resource for anyone ​interested in understanding healthcare challenges in SWANA.

Together, these journals serve as a comprehensive platform for advocacy and knowledge sharing. The Interactive ​Journal promotes community-driven contributions, while the SWANA UCLA Journal showcases the club’s structured ​research and insights. Both journals enhance the visibility of healthcare issues in SWANA, foster scholarly engagement, ​and support advocacy efforts to improve health outcomes. By regularly updating and maintaining these spaces, we aim to ​contribute meaningfully to the global conversation on healthcare disparities in the SWANA region.
